@deftangel,
May have been suggested before, although before metacritic futures existed, but regardless it's a good idea that you have.
I generally regard posting reviews as a good thing, as long as people are not posting many reviews for 1 game or from questionable sources. Reviews are particularly worthy when its the first one we know of for a high profile game, or as you said when a game receieves a particularly high or low score.
@Thumper,
I think there was some interview done awhile back with someone from Tell Tale Games where they mentioned the possibility of a 360 version.
I believe that for the near future, the Wii will be the only console to receive a full season compilation of Sam & Max, but I see a good chance of Tell Tale Games expanding their business to offer the episodes as downloads over XBL or PSN if they do decide to bring the series to another console platform.
There's probably a myriad of reasons this isn't coming out for PS2 or the other consoles, at least in the near future. The biggest reason they went with the Wii, as Istorymy already said, is the control scheme. The Wii remote (is it acceptable to call it a Wiimote? People do that, yes?) is perfectly made for point-and-click adventure games, a fact that many fans saw as soon as the controller was unveiled. The only reason the game is going to any console is because the fanbase wanted a Wii version so bad. Whether they make the jump to more consoles remains to be seen. Anybody have a source for the X360 rumours?
i completely agree that reviews need to be kept seperate from the news section as i see most of them as completely pointless. as gaara said sometimes they can catch my attention and i like to read them but it is not news and they only serve to clutter it up. really it is just a cheap way to get some upbids which is why i never submit them and never upbid any but the most interesting ones where i actually read the full article.
something similar could be done with previews as well, as most of them are fairly pointless and wont affect stock price.
well i am fairly heavily short on Burnout atm, ive shorted 9500 on the 360 at 160dkp and 6000 on ps3 at 125dkp and im pretty much at my margin after shorts on total software sales so ive not got any position on Mercenaries yet. for me its still too far from release and as this past month shows there are people willing to buy it up, it could end up being a big hole. with todays rebound from burnout i think its worth a short tbh, ive taken some advantage from it but im nearly at the margin. to what extent you short is it obviously down to you. personally i think the price for burnout 360 should be closer to 90dkp and the ps3 60dkp and mercenaries should be closer to 120dkp at the highest. theres profit there on both, but i think burnout has the quickest exit oppurtunities.
To drop the system would be a massive step, it would have to be doing worse than the Gamecube for that to happen so soon. There would be no benefit to a retailer dropping the 360 at this point, even in Japan and it's doing considerably worse there than Australia. It's not like anybody save perhaps Microsoft is making a loss stocking and selling them down under. It makes no sense.
Moreover, one of the stories on the front page of that site (ironically another 360 one) is from February. It doesn't have a GameRush tld (strange) and is built on free web space. It's certainly not a site I've heard of nor a terribly professional looking one, reputable or not. I'm not exactly sure how reliable a retail survey from a site without a proper domain or on hosted web space is.
Like I say, I didn't downbid the article and I'm not anti-negative-360 news. It just smacked of traffic-grabbing to me.
Agreed, the first Mercenaries was a quality title, good mission structure, aiming and calling in for air strikes and shipments such as weapons or vehicles was enjoyable. The game was open ended and allowed for a good deal of experimentation and the different characters added variety. The first game is regarded rather highly by many people I know, myself included, so I think this game will benefit from that greatly. Also, since EA is publishing this, as Joe80 said, it will have a larger potential consumer base than most games do. Given how games like COD4 and Assassin's Creed are doing, I would not doubt that this game will sell quite well when it is released and continue to sell well after it is released. For these reasons I think the current price is well within reach.
Agreed, a review channel that allows users to submit review scores in a fashion imagined below:
Bid | Score | Review Site | Date | Source
On the section 'Source' it will just have a link to the article. I think this would help greatly, especially if it was streamlined appropriately. Most review score submitted as articles I usually only look at the score, then will click on the link if it looks to be an interesting review or the score surprises me and I want to find out the rationale behind it. Rarely read the summary for review articles, so I think something to the effect outlined above will cut down clutter and make it easier for people to see how a game is scoring.
Here is a suggestion I have that may or may not have been made before. Has a "review/review scores" channel separate from the "news" channel been considered? Perhaps tying it in with the Metacritic futures page...
I have to confess, I don't find the posting of review scores in the News section terribly helpful. I'm loathe to downbid them as a) the community seems to upbid them and b) downbidding something purely because it's content *I* don't agree with seems to be not the done thing. The only counter to that would be when a game gets a particularly high/low score, something significant enough that it might shift a stock price. Middling scores and/or from unknown sources don't make much sense to me, whereas, EDGE or 1up giving Gears of War 2 a 4/10 *is* news, at least IMO.
Perhaps a review channel, streamlined and standardised (i.e. easy to enter the score, etc) and tied into the Metacritic section might promote some more interest in those given there will be a lot more of those Futures going forward.
@apujanata,
What is your reasoning for shorting this? It's releasing in a good timeframe, looks like a quality game, is published by EA so will be widely available worldwide, has already created controversy, & previous game was of high quality.
