I haven't bid on the article either way but is this terribly relevant? It's been out for 2 and a bit months in the US, not currently being traded and has no Metacritic future...
Article talks about the different aspects of combat in Huxley. Also contains links to previous articles in the series that week detailing the progress of the game, the various avatars you can make and city life. Quotes from article "There are hundreds of weapons in each category", "There's also the skill system to add some depth to Huxley. Examples are one that drops a flash-bang once your stamina drops under a certain amount, affording you a chance to escape."
"Star Ocean: First Departure is a textbook example of how to do a remake correctly. The game maintains enough of the core gameplay of the original game to keep fans happy, while offering enough new content to warrant going through the game all over again. The graphics and sound are unarguably better, stylistically consistent with the original, and more than able to compete with current generation games."
@deftangel,
So many questions :
- IMO, Too similar to Wii-mote, just like Windows are similar to Mac OS. Any possibilities of lawsuit ?
- Will this replace standard X360 controller, or will it be just peripheral (like Balance Board or Nunchuk is peripheral to Wii-mote, or Eye Toy is peripheral) ?
- How many games will support this ?
This game looks to be undervalued, while it is a valid point that previous MMOFPSs have failed or not met expectations, there is usually a time when a particular genre matures, and this game (especially when looking at the gameplay videos), and along with Webzen's other game, All Points Bulletin, look to be a solid offerings that will push the MMOFPS genre forward.
If their server technology is implemented well, it is possible that this will be a hit both home and abroad, leading me to believe that sales of 500k minimum are possible if they allow this game to mature beyond just being a large scale shooter with hubs for towns. The character customization and various things that can be done outside of the FPS portion of the game lead me to believe that this will happen, if so it could lead to long legs as this game becomes more than just a shooter, becoming more of an MMORPG that builds a dedicated community that can slowly convince their friends and others to join.
With recent PC games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl selling 1.65 Million, surprising many people (SE prediction was only 37DKP), I think the same thing will happen here, especially if Webzen can get the hype machine rolling at the right time. Plus, compare this game to Hellgate: London, which we have at 58DKP, even though that game was buggy when released and received negative press. A price point greater than 50DKP seems reasonable to me.
Despite jumping the gun (and probably upsetting Mark Rein) this month's GameInformer does indeed have a 12 page cover article on Gears 2. A NeoGAF poster is kindly putting up some excerpts (not the whole thing) from the feature including details of 4 new characters, Tai Kaliso, Chairman Prescott, Dizzy & Maria Santiago (Dom's wife). Other excerpts include a desire to make Gears 2 about a much larger conflict but also heighten the personal involvement via a storyline involving Dom.
Gee blast from the past! Thought this one was dead.
