Infogrames CEO, David Gardner, tells GI.biz that the company may drop its name completely for the Atari marquee brand. He wants the company thought of as a "start-up" and the name change to represent the "final mark" of transformation. Directeur Général Délégué Phil Harrison chimes in that the company, as it stands now with a new management team less than a year old, is "absolutely a start-up" -- it's just a start-up with 25 years of history (and some serious financial drama).

David Gardner, chief executive officer of Infogrames, has told GamesIndustry.biz that the rejuvenated Atari business doesn't have room for mistakes. New Atari products have got to sell well for the publisher as it reboots the business, with Gardner keenly aware of the increasing competition in the videogame market.

David Gardner has stated his belief that forthcoming adventure title Alone in the Dark can sell "2-3 million units" on all platforms, following its delayed release in June this year.

Atari has hired on Jim Wilson as CEO, as the publisher continues to work towards improving its financial position. Wilson most recently worked at Sony Wonder, Sony BMG's home entertainment business. But he also has served as president of Universal Interactive and as EVP/general manager of Worldwide Studios for Vivendi Universal Games after Vivendi's acquisition of the publisher.

"Atari, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATAR), an interactive entertainment company, announced today that on March 24, 2008 it received a Staff Determination Letter from the Nasdaq Listing Qualifications Department stating that Atari, Inc. has not gained compliance with the requirements of Nasdaq Marketplace Rule 4450(b)(3), and that its securities are therefore subject to delisting from The Nasdaq Global Market."

Valve announced today that Atari is offering many of its PC titles through the company's Steam digital distribution service. Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and Indigo Prophecy among others are currently available. Although not currently available, Valve states that The Witcher, Neverwinter Nights 2 and its expansion, NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer, will be available soon.
