After reaching 2 million units sold in its opening weekend, Epic Games told Edge on Monday that Gears of War 2 has rapidly hit another milestone. Epic Games VP Mark Rein said in an e-mail, "Microsoft confirmed to me this afternoon that Gears of War 2 sell-through surpassed 3 million units as of last week." 2006's original Gear of War took around ten weeks to hit the same mark. Gears 2 did it in four.

According to early retailer reports, and user polls, Gears of War 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest Xbox 360 titles to date.Using the aforementioned data, Gears of War 2 looks to have debuted to midnight and Friday sales of 1,400,000 units in North America, and 700,000 units in 'Others' territories. This would be roughly 20% lower, by comparison, to Halo 3's massive debut, which wound up with 3.8 million units sold it's first week on the market.

In addition to the 2 million copies of Gears of War 2 that flew off the shelves over the weekend, LIVE was pretty active as well. More than 1.5 million people signed into "Gears of War 2" during the weekend, racking up a total 15 million gameplay hours and helping set a new record for concurrent LIVE players. These players also collectively unlocked more than 19 million GoW2 Achievements

Pre-sales for Epic's cover-heavy action sequel Gears of War 2 (360) have surpassed the total pre-sale orders for the original Gears of War, publisher Microsoft has announced.

"If you haven't figured it out by now, Gears of War 2 is what's going to sell Xbox 360s this holiday season. It has non-stop action, fresh gameplay, varied environments, an engrossing storyline, multiplayer that will have people busy for years to come, and some of the nastiest and coolest kills I've seen in a videogame."

Earlier, Microsoft India had said they expected Gears of War 2 to help boost sales of their console, and today Mathur said that while they can't reveal the exact figures, sales for the 360 went up by 30 to 45 per cent in the wake of Gears 2.

Article: Gears Of War 2 : Horde Wave 50 Completed On InsaneJust like a prophet, 3Suns made the call that the Gearheads would be the first to conquer Wave 50 on Insane difficulty when Cliff divulged that Epic’s best testers only made it to Wave 17 or so. We did it within the first eight days of the game’s release. This image that I provided is proof enough. They're basing this on their scores on the leaderboards.

Day 1 is midnight launch and Friday (1 day).
Over the weekend is midnight launch, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (3 days). I am not sure whether Major Nelson consider Sunday as part of the weekend or not, but I think it included Sunday.
Do you still think that major Nelson backs VGC early predictions ?

RE: Gears of War sells 2 Million Unitsanother comment, kudos to microsoft for reinforcing their servers enough to handle the high activity i'm sure such a release with such sales would have brought to xbox live. from my experience, there wasn't a single hitch this past weekend. (other than people not being able to download the gold lancer)
