Microsoft drops the price of the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player

It looks as if Microsoft will be making the holiday season that much better, as retailers such as Toys R Us have lowered the price of the Xbox 360 HD DVD player to the low price of only $129.99. Just this summer the HD DVD Player was retailing for $199.99, and half a year later we potentially two price cuts on the hardware. Both Amazon and Toys R Us are offering the HD DVD Player at the new price, so if you waited all this time, wait no longer!

Xbox 360 sales up 32% in the UK

GFK Chart-Track has told that sales of Xbox 360 hardware rose 32% over the weekend of Microsoft's latest price reduction. In comparison, sales of Sony's PS3 were down eight per cent on the previous weekend. Last night, Microsoft announced that sales of the Xbox 360 have hit six million units across Europe. Microsoft's latest aggressive hardware pricing now puts the Arcade Xbox 360 unit at GBP 129.99 in the UK, making it the cheapest of the current generation home consoles.

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox 360 is to receive a price cut in Europe, with the Arcade unit now selling for GBP 129.99 / EUR 179.99. The new price points come into effect September 19, with the Premium unit complete with 60GB hard drive selling for GBP 169.99 / EUR 239.99 and the Xbox 360 Elite for GBP 229.99 / EUR 299.99.
