Fewer want to upgrade, so MS will focus on current Xbox

newstribune - January 11, 2009

Submitted by welshbloke (31) at 6:10AM PST on January 11, 2009

Microsoft Corp. will rely on its Xbox 360 game console for longer than the previous version because it’s getting harder to get consumers to upgrade, the head of the company’s entertainment unit said. The software maker will focus on improving the Xbox’s games and features rather than rushing to introduce a new model, President Robbie Bach said Wednesday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The Xbox 360 started selling in 2005, replacing the original Xbox, which debuted in 2001.

Microsoft drops the price of the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player

XboxCircle - December 5, 2007

Submitted by Bleezy (250) at 5:25AM PST on December 5, 2007

It looks as if Microsoft will be making the holiday season that much better, as retailers such as Toys R Us have lowered the price of the Xbox 360 HD DVD player to the low price of only $129.99. Just this summer the HD DVD Player was retailing for $199.99, and half a year later we potentially two price cuts on the hardware. Both Amazon and Toys R Us are offering the HD DVD Player at the new price, so if you waited all this time, wait no longer!

Xbox 360 sales up by 214%

Videogamer.com - September 30, 2008

"Microsoft has announced that new figures published by Chart Track have revealed a massive 214% rise in sales for the Xbox 360 in the last two weeks. The console also outsold the PlayStation 3 by more than two-to-one in the UK." Videogamer.com I think the price reduction in UK has made its magic:)
