According to the article, Sony spokesman David Karakker announced the new PLAYSTATION 3 SKU which has an 80GB hard disk and bundled with Motorstorm. This new pack will cost $599, effectively replacing the 60GB SKU which has been all but confirmed to be sold at $499 soon. This new SKU will be available by August in US and Canada.

Netflix backs Blu-ray exclusively

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The HD-DVD format by took another blow Monday as online video-rental giant Netflix pledged to offer high-definition DVD's only in the rival Blu-ray format. In a statement, Netflix said it based its decision on the fact that four of the six major studios are going give exclusive backing to Blu-ray, made by Sony. It plans to phase out its offering of HD-DVD disks, from Toshiba, by the end of the year.

SCEE's David Reeves says no price cut for PS3 anytime soon, not even in the Spring 2009. He also says "That doesn’t mean we are going to add pieces of software – we might add original ideas to the machine."

I would be very, very surprised if Sony throw in the towel (didn't release PS4) just because of 1 bad generation (PS3). I believe that PS4 will still be made, but the philosophy of it will be quite different than PS3. At least that is what I predicted Howard Stringer will do in the future.

The PS3 stock appears to be coming back into reality. The GLS price was forecasting some pretty substantial growth over the next few years, while sales appear to actually be slowing.
However, considering the article about how MSFT is holding off on upgrading from the 360, this indicates the PS3 10-year claim may have more validity. This would allow the time to reach 50 million+ units. But if the PS3 sales continue as is, I don't think Sony will be sitting on their hands. They will have to make substantial changes if they want to stay in the game. I just don't know if Sony Corp is in the financial position to develop and release a PS4 at this point.

I think it is 130% compared to non-festive (a.k.a. non-holiday) period. It could be anything like week of christmas vs week before christmas, or 2 weeks of early Dec vs 2 weeks of later Dec (Christmas + week before christmas).
Did you know that PR people hate simEx ? They will never release PR statement that made simEx player's life easier.
(In case you didn't notice, I am joking about PR people vs. simEx player, so you can ignore my feeble attempt at joking at the second paragraph).

The thing Sony need to do is to get a PSThree out the door at a greatly reduced form factor and price. That's what their R&D should be working on right now.
