Lair IGN Review (4.9/10)

IGN - August 30, 2007

Submitted by yamaro (41) at 8:29PM PST on August 30, 2007

At one point, Lair looked like one of the most promising titles coming to the PS3, but the final version - even with its interesting story, occasionally impressive graphics and amazing music - falls well short of anything you should be playing. Score: *Presentation 8 *Graphics 7.5 *Sound 8 *Gameplay 4.5 *Lasting Appeal 5.5 *Overall 4.9/10

IGN Preview: "Factor 5 says that its development process makes for a quick progression from the "first alpha" to the final finished form, and that we can expect to see Lair on store shelves this July. Indeed, dragon battles on our PlayStation 3s are a mere three months away."

"A Beautiful Disaster" GameSpot Review (4.5/10)

GameSpot - August 31, 2007

Submitted by Starless (2) at 11:16PM PST on August 31, 2007

You shouldn't play Lair. Not unless you have some morbid interest in experiencing what is quite possibly one of the worst control schemes ever devised. It's a shame because as a cinematic experience, it's stunning to watch. As a game, it's a nightmare and an embarrassment. It sounds like a fantastic idea: You fly around on a dragon, spewing fire and clawing at other reptiles while generally wreaking havoc. Too bad you're forced to use Sixaxis controls that destroy the possibility of fun and replace it with the constant need to scream expletives at your television screen.

PsxExtreme Preview "For the most part, Lair is looking to be an extraordinary title, but the key revolves around the balance of air and ground combat, and the functionality of that motion sensitivity in the Sixaxis"

No, We Did Not Force Rubbish Controls On Lair

Kotaku - September 29, 2007

Trying to fly a dragon using the sixaxis is like trying to wrestle a teflon bull that's been basted in cooking grease. Which begs the question: with no old-fashioned control scheme to revert to, did Sony force Factor 5 to make it Sixaxis-only?
