Gamestop Not Accepting Xboxes Feb. 9

Kotaku - January 4, 2009

Submitted by necron101 (57) at 9:37PM PST on January 4, 2009

We got tipped by an anonymous Gamestop employee that the chain won't accept original Xbox games, consoles and accessories as of Feb. 9. Looks like this is officially it for the console. Says our tipster: "The Marketing kit for this coming Sunday has a sign that says Gamestop will no longer be accepting Xbox games, systems and accessories as of Feb 9th. Finally, corporate has realized this, after selling an incredibly low number of systems and games.

Nielsen Ratings US Gamers Play More Original Xbox than PS3

Gamercyte - December 31, 2008

Submitted by Sanderson1 (1045) at 4:55PM PST on January 1, 2009

The original black Xbox gets more play than the PS3. So why, three years later, does the original Xbox command a 2.4% greater share of gaming minutes than the PlayStation 3? But perhaps the better question is why Sony’s monolith only grabs 7.3% of console gaming time, period; under half that of the Xbox 360 and only slightly over half that of the Wii.

Nielsen ratings, Wii third place in overall console usage

Destructoid - December 31, 2008

Submitted by afsplat (42) at 9:35AM PST on January 1, 2009

Nielsen ratings are awesome, partially because they keep my favorite T.V. show (Jag) alive and well. Nielsen also collects videogame data. The kicker is that the demographic willing to fill out the questionnaires aren’t exactly “in the now” like the majority of us are. The latest console usage chart indicates that the PlayStation 2 is still rocking hard and the super spectacular crazy-selling Wii only nabbed third place. // date = 1/1/2009 //

Could The $60 Standard Be Reversed By The Recession?

Kotaku - December 29, 2008

Submitted by necron101 (57) at 6:29PM PST on December 29, 2008

Not sure if you've noticed, but the economy's in the toilet. Even the supposed "recession-proof" video game industry is feeling the pinch, with publishers slashing prices even on best-selling titles. Could last-gen pricing return? Forbes points to cuts on titles like Activision's Call of Duty: World at War — currently Amazon.com's deal of the day — and Guitar Hero World Tour as indicators that sales may be slowing on top tier titles.
