Poor Asian console sales shouldn't be blamed on piracy

The slow performance of home consoles in Asian markets outside of Japan shouldn't be just blamed on piracy, according to Nexon CEO Joonmo Kwon. If publishers really want success in Asian markets, Kwon believes they must cater to the local demands, and that means increasing online services in regions that expect such features as standard.

" Talking to Gamasutra, GameStop executives have revealed that PC sales in their stores are down from a year ago, with the number of new PC retail games "down probably more than what I had anticipated", according to SVP Bob McKenzie -- but with spikes for key games like Lich King and Spore and digital downloads."

97% of American Kids Play Video Games

—Ninety-seven percent of young respondents play video games. That's 99 percent of boys and 94 percent of girls, with little difference in the percentages among various racial and ethnic groups and incomes. In fact, 7 percent of those surveyed said they didn't have a computer at home, but did have a game console, such as PlayStation, Xbox or Wii. Nearly two-thirds play video games to socialize face-to-face with friends and family, while just over a quarter said they play with Internet friends

Inquirer: Google to buy Valve

There's nothing in the way of official confirmation at the moment, but tech website The Inquirer reports that "well-placed sources" are telling it that Google will be purchasing Valve "any second now." As the site points out, Google is likely less motivated by Valve's game development than its nigh-ubiquitous content distribution platform, Steam.

Final Fantasy XIII Tops Most Wanted List In Japan

Final Fantasy XIII sits firmly in the #1 slot, and that's hardly surprising. Final Fantasy Versus XIII falls in at #9, and both are well ahead of GTAIV, which barely makes the list at #13. Not surprisingly, Resident Evil 5 is in the top 3, and there's an obvious Nintendo and RPG presence. Here's the list:

Castle Crashers Hits 250k Players, Fixes Coming
