According to the article, Sony spokesman David Karakker announced the new PLAYSTATION 3 SKU which has an 80GB hard disk and bundled with Motorstorm. This new pack will cost $599, effectively replacing the 60GB SKU which has been all but confirmed to be sold at $499 soon. This new SKU will be available by August in US and Canada.

That's what most of the gents on NeoGaf are reacting with.
I think this new SKU was a bad move, especially if they try to stop shipments of the 60 gig version.

Well this is a particularly big news with nobody reporting yet. I guess it just pays to be a rather fast typist ;)
My two cents on this issue: Sony should have ended with the price drop. This new SKU might negate the good vibes brought by the price drop as the price effectively stayed the same at $599.

Sony might be trying for profitability, seeing that +20GB and a game is definitely not worth $100. We'll see how the public reacts soon enough.
