Microsoft confirms price drop for Xbox 360 Elite

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox 360 Elite will drop in price to GBP 199.99 in the UK and EUR 249.99 in Europe from tomorrow, August 28. The Xbox 360 Elite will no longer ship with a bundled HDMI cable, and in the US the Elite model will retail for USD 299. The Arcade will not see a price rise in North America, remaining at the USD 199 price point

It seems that today is not a good day to be a game developer for a successful studio, as publisher Electronic Arts has now confirmed a series of layoffs at Spore developer EA Maxis.

We have compiled our latest Americas hardware data for the week ending 22nd August and in the three days following the price cut, daily PS3 hardware saw around a 30% increase.

Dragon Quest IX (DS)

Weekly unit sales of Square Enix's DS RPG Dragon Quest IX dropped below 100,000 units for the first since its July launch in Japan, as Nintendo's Tomodachi Collection took the top spot. Sales of Dragon Quest IX fell to 79,000 units for the week ended August 23, according to Media Create, down from the prior week's 127,000 units. The game has sold over 3.7 million units in Japan to date. The drop in sales pushed the game down from number one to number two on the weekly sales charts.

According to Nintendo's internal tracking figures, sales of the Wii Sports Resortâ„¢ game have surpassed 1 million copies in the United States since its July 26 launch. Japan and Europe have also sold more than 1 million copies each since the title launched in their respective markets.

We've talked at length about Dragon Age's dark-fantasy story and the game's spellcasting mechanics, but, until now, we haven't seen the 360 version in action. At a recent hands-on event, Thierry Nguyen and I got some time with the 360 build and discovered, not surprisingly, that it works.

9.5 Presentation 9.0 Graphics 9.0 Sound 8.5 Gameplay Easy to get into point-and-click adventure with an excellent story and a great amount of variety. 7.5 Lasting Appeal Lots of puzzles, but not much replay value even though you can play them after they're unlocked. Once you know the solution, that's it.
