NPD to Introduce Digital Sales Charts

American sales tracker NPD has told MCV that it wants to introduce the globe’s first digital download chart. Leading publishers & trade body ELSPA last month told MCV that the time was right to introduce digital charts in the UK, through GfK-ChartTrack. Now NPD wants to offer charts for PC, console & even mobile across the Atlantic. The NPD Group won’t yet confirm how quickly the charts will be created – but ruled out a merged retail and digital chart.

Walt Disney Company agrees to acquire iconic comic book company Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion. More than 5,000 iconic comic book characters will soon be in the hands of Disney, raising serious questions about the future of Marvel video game titles from Activision, Sega, THQ, and the upcoming MMO from Gazillion Entertainment.

"This war between Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD is extremely nasty, as members from each camp throw barbs at each other. Unlike the console wars, which has Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo actually expanding the overall videogame market, this next gen DVD battle is not helping consumers, retailers or anyone not affiliated with one of the two sides."

The TOKYO GAME SHOW 2009 will be using "green power" - just as it did last year - to contribute to the conservation of the global environment. All 280,000 kWh of the power consumed at the common areas of the show will be generated by a biomass power station. Games and Preservation - the next order word...
