@GoblinMerchant,
More importantly, there's not a single person that I know who liked 07 for the Wii (myself included). I bought 08 for 360. The "swinging a golf club" didn't override the fatal flaws of 07 for me.
Also remember that this release was an odd case. Normally there's a year between editions, but 07 was only released on the Wii back in March so there was only half a year between editions.
@kspraydad, I don't think people who bought 07 will necessarily buy 08 again. 35k is very weak for an opening week. Also, EA annual sports games seem to be selling flat year-over-year so far. I don't expect Tiger 08 to break the trend.
I think this FUTURE is pretty wonky...and the lifetime stock as well.
100k in one week? That would be a big jump over the 07 sales, which happened during a much slower time (March) while this one will have to fight for attention with games like Metroid and Madden.
If the VGchartz numbers are even remotely close, Madden didn't get a big first week sales boost over last year...so I don't see why the lower-profile golf game will. I think the Exchange is over-estimating the amount of Wii owners that desire a new golf game already...especially considering that 07 came out only 5 months ago.
Again, the same post as in the Xbox 360 stock, just want to cover all bases.
We're predicting one week sales equal to 2/3rds of the total sales for 07. I think this needs to come down quite a bit. Like the other one, in the 9-11 DKP range.
We're still pretty early on in Tiger Woods 08, having only briefly checked out the mini-games and quick play modes, with the full-blown Career Mode and multiplayer challenges still waiting, but thus far our general consensus is that Tiger Woods 08 still falls under some of its 07 issues, and is by no means a perfect golf game. At the same time, a few of the core changes are for the better, as long as Wii owners understand the very serious disclaimer that Tiger Woods 08 looks exactly like 07, falls under some of the same traps as 07, and includes no Wi-Fi support or PS2-supported "ESPN Integration," which is a definite downside. Madden, Live, and FIFA all ship with full Wi-Fi this year, and we're baffled that Tiger Woods is again getting the shaft. Still, the core game is improved from what we can tell, so hardcore golf fanatics still may want to keep this one in the "maybe" section of your wishlist.
Do people realize that this game will only have one week of sales in August? It comes out the 28th, which means some stores won't have it until the 29th, and August NPD ends about a week later. Also, it's coming out 2 weeks after Madden, which might hinder the first week sales. Thirdly, there's also a PS3 version that will cut into sales of the other two.
On a side note, I kind of don't get why there would be an August future and not a September future as the first issue. But seeing as there is, this needs to come down a lot, I think.
@Bastard11, what is your reasoning that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 can't sell 800,000 copies on the Wii? 07 was a pretty strong seller and the Wii has substantially increased its user base. Golf games are one genre that would definitely take advantage of the Wii craze. I think 800k is on the optimistic end, but not "severely overvalued." Furthermore, people seem to be pretty content with the IPO price as the stock has continued to trade in this range.
